Like many experienced instructors, he has built up a wide repertoire of approaches and materials for his subject matter. This allows him to customize his use of Understanding Catholicism. He emphasized, however, that a teacher new to the subject or the classroom will find everything he or she needs in the module. “A new teacher can use this and do just fine,” he said. AT JUNIPERO SERRA, THE MODULE ALSO MET WITH THE REQUIRED ARCHDIOC- ESAN APPROVAL, MEEGAN SAID. “THEY WERE VERY IM- PRESSED WITH THIS COURSE.” Students at Junipero Serra represent a diverse mix of faith traditions as well as no tradition, Meegan said. And Understanding Catholicism serves them all well. “For Catholics and non-Catholics alike, also those very scared of religion, or of no religion or from other traditions, Understanding Catholicism provides a gentle introduction to the profundi- ties of Catholicism,” he said. Meegan said he looks forward to using upcoming eLearning mod- ules from Saint Mary’s Press as well. “For Sacraments, it’s going to be brilliant. [Also] social justice. For the price, what it does is focus what we’re doing, it’s our jumping off point. That I really like.” // SEMESTER-LONG · 9TH & 10TH GRADE Students will gain an understanding of the basic tenets of the Catholic faith.
