I Feel . . .

About this article

This poem, written by a high school student from Pontiac, Michigan, expresses the joy of spring, growth, and new life.

I feel
most happy
when the ground is breaking,
the dark earth giving way to the
warmth of a yellow sun. I feel most
content when I breathe the cool air
and it runs through my little green
veins, giving life to my being.
I feel most at peace when
the gentle wind sways
my
vermilion
hair
and
makes
me
dance
in
the
warmth
of a yellow sun.
I feel calmed when the
morning dew trickles down my
emerald spine and collects in the
crevices of my broad
hands.
I
feel
most
loved
at
the
touch
of a young child, a gift to his
unexpecting mother. My growth ends, yet I live on in the eyes
of another. And I make them happy in the warmth of the yellow sun.
