Aerial View of Roman Legion Camp
About this image
"This aerial photograph of a Roman legion camp shows the remnants of one of the several camps that were used in the seige and attack on Masada in 73 CE. A legion (a main division of the Roman army) was composed of approximately five thousand men. Legions were broken down into ten cohorts. Mark's Gospel reports that a whole cohort was assembled to mock Jesus (Mark 15:16-20)."
