Saturday of the Fifth Week of Easter

Saint of the day

Saint Vincent of Lerins (d.445)

Saint Vincent of Lerins was a soldier, but felt called to become a monk. He entered a monastery on the coast of southern France and was later ordained. His most famous written work is the Commonitorium, which determined between true and false Christian tradition. Vincent believed that the most important source of Christian truth was Holy Scripture, and the Church's authority guaranteed the correct interpretation.

Reflection

Saint Vincent of Lerins reminds us of the importance of Scripture. It is easy to forget that the majority of the theology and beliefs of our Christian faith come from Scripture. It is important to learn and read Scripture. Take some time to read your favorite stories from the Bible and meditate on their meaning.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, please help me to find time to read the Bible and learn from your lessons in it.
