Wednesday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time

Saint of the day

Saint Ephrem (c.306-373)

Saint Ephrem was born around the year 306 and died in 373 at Edessa, called Urfa today, in Iraq. He was a famous theologian and writer, but he is best known for his musical writings--hymns, songs, and homilies--written to be chanted, sung, and read aloud. (Taken from "Saints Passionate and Peculiar.")

Reflection

Saint Ephrem is known as a wonderful musician. Music, and all art, can be a magnificent means by which to better understand truth. Through music, we can understand, love, and ultimately grow in union with God. Listen to your favorite song. Why do you like it? How is the reason for your appreciation related to your faith?

Prayer

Dear God, help me to love and appreciate music, and, in doing so, love and appreciate you.
