Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels

Saint of the day

Saint Leodegarius (c.615-678)

Saint Leodegarius was the son of Saint Sigrada and the brother of Saint Gerinus. His born to a noble family in France and was brought up in the court of King Clotaire II. Leodegarius was a reforming bishop of Autun in 663. He stood up against Manichaeism, reformed the clergy, required discipline in religious houses, and stressed the significance of the Sacraments, specifically Baptism. His efforts and support of Childric instead of Ebroin for the throne angered many powerful people. Ebroin accused him of helping to plot the murder of Childric, and had him imprisoned and executed. Saint Leodegarius is the patron saint of blind people and millers.

Reflection

Saint Leodegarius focused attention on the Sacraments and stressed their importance for growing closer to God. Take a minute to think about the Sacraments that you regularly receive, probably the Eucharist and Reconciliation. Appreciate their importance and think of times that they helped you feel closer to God.

Prayer

Dear God, please help me to recognize the supreme importance of the Sacraments and help me to more readily notice your presence in them.
