Memorial of Saints Timothy and Titus, Bishops

Saint of the day

Saint Timothy (1st century)

Saint Timothy was born to a Greek father and a Jewish mother. His grandmother, Lois, was the first member of the family to convert to Christianity. Timothy converted to the faith through the ministry of Saint Paul, and joined him in preaching the Gospel. Timothy was relatively young for the work that he was doing with Paul, but that didn't stop him from taking on the tough tasks that Paul and his faith brought to the table. Timothy took on the responsibility of being the representative at the Church of Ephesus, and spent some time in prison for his faith and ministry. He was eventually martyred for refusing to take part in the pagan worship of Dionysius. Saint Timothy is the patron saint against intestinal disorders and stomach diseases.

Reflection

Saint Timothy's youth did not stop him from taking on the tough tasks that Paul and his Christian faith presented. Because of his courage and unwillingness to deny his beliefs, Timothy was a strong example to those who were considering Christianity when he was willingly martyred. Spend a few quiet minutes with the Lord. Thank him for the gift of faith, and for those who taught you about Christianity.

Prayer

Gentle God, thank you for the people who have taught me about you and about your Son, Jesus. I am grateful for the gift of faith. (Taken from “Good News Day by Day: Bible Reflections for Teens.”)
