Saturday of the Sixth Week of Easter

Saint of the day

Saint Theophilus of Corte (d.1740)

Saint Theophilus was born in Corte, Italy, and given the name Biagio Arrighi. When he as a young man he felt called to enter religious life and joined the Franciscans, taking the name Theophilus. He exhibited a great passion for solitude and prayer. After completing his studies, Theophilus was ordained. He then set out on a mission to preach the Good News in Corsica and Tuscany. Saint Theophilus of Corte also encouraged his fellow Franciscan brothers to follow the rules of their order with rigor and zeal.

Reflection

Saint Theophilus spent substantial time in prayer and solitude. Spending time alone with God is indispensable in growing closer to him. Do you take time for solitude?

Prayer

Dear God, help me to find time for solitude and, when I have time alone with you, help me to know you more.
