Charles Burke, FSC, began his career teaching in Catholic high schools in Wheaton, Illinois; Saint Louis, Missouri; and Minneapolis, Minnesota. He became a member of the Christian Brothers of the Midwest Province in 1953. After editing Loneliness in 1970, he became a writer and the director of development at Saint Mary's Press in 1974 and earned his master's degree in psychology from Saint Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota. Since then he has held a series of positions, including assistant director of the Center for Human Development at the University of Notre Dame; dean of students at Saint Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota; and advertising coordinator for Saint Mary's Press.
